Adhesive Language: By connecting artists and experts in various fields of study, Applied Words uses language as a platform for conversations about contemporary social issues at the local, national, and international level. It is a program created by the Guild Literary Complex in Chicago.
Language is adhesive. It takes on many forms such as words, dance, and visual art and in showcasing these languages alongside the conversation, art and activism merge together.
I created the logo and supporting materials for the events. They needed to reflect the geometric patterns of the streets of Chicago, as well as the unique people and places the city offers. The brand represents the culture of conversation and communication with one another, the shared learning experiences, and the bold, disruptive personality of the Applied Words offerings. I also worked with the Literary Guild Complex to create other posters and collateral to promote the many events in Chicago they curate.
I created the art and design for each poster to reflect the theme of the event each month.
The identity was influenced by the personalities and different backgrounds of Chicagoans, coming together as a pattern, interwoven, and stronger as a unit. The logo was built boldly to work within many applications and in many color palettes.
I also was asked to create posters and event materials for Brooks Day, an annual celebration of Gwendolyn Brooks in Chicago, hosted by the Guild Literary Complex.
I also teamed up with the Guild and the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame to design a poster for the inauguration of Fanny Butcher
